Tourism and business development
The Clock Area

The clock area of Jaffa constitutes a link between Jaffa and Tel Aviv. In this area are commercial services, hotels, catering, parking and visitors centers. At the end of the 19 th century, the clock square represented the historic center of Jaffa, when the central administration buildings were built around it (the Saraya and the Governor's buildings, the "Kishle" prison, the Great Mosque etc.) and the main roads to all the country started from there: Yefet Street, leading towards Gaza, Beit Ha'eshel Street, leading to Jerusalem, connecting the Jerusalem Gate in Jaffa with Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem and Butrus Street (now Raziel Street), which leads to Nablus.

In the framework of the development works, a reconstruction is taking place of all the main buildings and the historic system of roads is also being developed.

The development of the site will complete the link between the market and the old city and the pedestrian area, attaching and connecting the tourist attractions in Jaffa, among which are the development of the Saraya Building and the Clock Tower and connecting the infrastructures of the market, from an engineering aspect. Development of the Clock Square includes widening of the sidewalks and design of the traffic island at its northern end. In addition, all the underground infrastructures will be replaced and new lighting will be installed.

The project is part of the development program of tourism in Jaffa and will be financed by the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo.

Until now, renovation of the facades in the western front of the Clock Square has been carried out, while putting emphasis on the conservation of the historic facades and unity of the front. At this time, reinforcement of the Saraya Building and renovation of the facades are being completed. The Clock Tower has been repaired and renovated.
